Yep, it is a Gutbuster

So, the Gutbuster is absolutely as hard as everyone says it is.
I would say its the hardest event I’ve ever done.
Unfortunately, after doing all the hard work, my brakes crapped out and I had to pull out with the finish virtually in sight.
At one point I was screaming down the gravel at 70kmh with no way of stopping and I decided that a broken collarbone wasn’t worth it.
It was also a valuable lesson in making sure your bike is revived because I had been worried about the brakes for a while.
The veteran and masters categories are over-represented in this race and boy they go good. The top five riders in the vet male category were in the top 10 overall, including Lee Moreton who was fourth overall (and helped me out the some chafe cream before the race).
I will be back next year and I’m keen to get enough training in to have a. Crack at breaking five hours.
