Another serious injury for Stags

The Stags injury situation has gone from worse to worser.

Ahead of Friday night’s must-win game against Manawatu, reserve loosehead Micheal Peterson has dislocated an ankle playing indoor netball.

Peterson, who replaced Stags skipper Jamie Mackintosh in the second half of last weekend’s loss to Taranaki, is in a cast and will be out of the game for some time.

That’s put pressure on Southland’s meagre front row resources, with Mackintosh still battling to overcome a rib injury he suffered against Taranaki.

Mackintosh will take part in the captain’s run tomorrow before deciding whether he can play against Manawatu, a game the Stags must win to have any chance of making the championship semifinals.

Hooker Jason Rutledge, who has propped at club level, is being lined up as potential cover in the front row, while Aston Talaia could be rushed back into service despite only just coming back from a long-term foot injury.
