Good honesty from Stags skiper Jamie Mackintosh here, it wouldn’t have been easy to take having the franchise that you had been loyal to in the past basically consigning you to a bench role next season.
It wasn’t that long ago that the future of the Highlanders was being pinned on retaining Mackintosh and Jimmy Cowan, now Cowan’s gone and Tony Woodcock has been brought in to shore up the Highlanders scrum.
Interesting to note Mackintosh talking about his scrummaging. The two most consistent criticisms I hear about him are that he can’t scrum and he goes to ground too easily with the ball.
If he could imporove those areas I believe he would come firmly back into All Black reckoning, which would be as good a comeback story as you’d find.
Meanwhile, we aren’t big AFL fans here at The Roar but the annual Brownlow Medal presentation is another matter, for obvious reasons.
